Baxter Estates is a tiny village of about 1,000 residents on the western side of the Cow Neck Peninsula. It overlooks Manhasset Bay and is surrounded by Port Washington. The Baxter family it is named for were shipbuilders, whalers and sea captains, and the 1673 Baxter Homestead stood on Shore Road until a fire in 2017. Today the village is known for Baxter's Pond Park, its small bayfront beach and Sunset Park, and its position at the foot of Port Washington's Main Street.
